Outreach and Community Service

Health fairs and screenings, gifts to schools of nursing, baskets at Thanksgiving, and relief when storms come — the work that happens between the meetings.

What we do

In the community, and at home in Guyana.

Some of this work is one afternoon at a folding table with a blood pressure cuff. Some of it crosses an ocean. All of it is done by members giving their own time.

  • Honored by the Kings County District Attorney for community service at the Caribbean Heritage Celebration.
  • Donated books to the University of Guyana for the nursing program.
  • Sponsored “Sickle Cell Day” in Guyana.
  • Participated in the Caribbean Nursing Conference in Guyana (2024).
  • Participated in the Brookdale Hospital health fair by providing blood glucose monitoring and diabetic education to the community.
  • Participated in the health fair at St. Marks Church.
  • Participated in CANA/NYBNA Nurses Week celebrations.
  • Thanksgiving baskets donated to shut-ins and needy individuals in the community.
  • Donation to Tots and Teens in Focus (a part of the Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Foundation).
  • Disaster relief for members and contributions to Caribbean countries affected by hurricanes — including donations for Hurricane Melissa in 2025–2026.
  • Nursing services provided to the Guyana Cultural Association during their summer camp — a service we still provide.

Lend a hand

This work needs nurses.

Members staff every health fair, pack every basket, and carry every donation. If you are a nurse of Guyanese heritage, there is a place for you here.

Support our work

Every scholarship starts with a gift.

Contributions fund scholarships for nursing and other students, continuing education for practicing nurses, and community health work in New York and in Guyana. We accept gifts by Zelle or by mail.
